Each year the transition teacher selects students in Year 7 to become Buddies to new students who will be joining the school.
The Buddies are trained on how to be friends and support new students. Some of the Buddies may be involved in school visits with transition staff. Buddies join the year 6 students when they attend Hednesford Valley High for 2 days of induction in July. Buddies work with Year 6 in lessons, have lunch with them and play outside too. Buddies support new students to the school during social times in September each year.
The Buddies are encouraged to set a good example to others and how to approach worried or upset students. They are equipped with social games to play and are ready to support other students in seeking help from adults.
